Yesterday was our first day of Orientation. After orientation we went to
see the Trevi Fountain! After we just wandered around through the city and found shops that sold to our surprise everything you would find in the U.S! All of us agreed that we packed like we are going to a third world country when in fact they sell everything you can think of here, including peanut butter and in the case of toothbrushes-CHEAPER! I had a delicious chocolate croissant (corneto cioccolato) for breakfast, some gross pasta for lunch that I didn't even finish... luckily only wasted 1.9 euro on it. We definitely now know to avoid the colorful flashy signs advertising cheap pizza. Our school administrator recommended it so it is very frustrating it was so awful. I made up for lunch by purchasing some fresh, delightful Italian cookies at a bakery 20 ft from my apartment. I enjoyed them very much with some cafe americano!!
Unfortunately, it has been rainy and windy all day so after orientation we just went to lunch and walked the two miles back to our apartment. For now p90x will have to suffice for workouts, but I am determined to find somewhere to run tomorrow when I have more time in the morning. Apparently there is a park somewhere....somewhere being the key word. It is very hard to find things, even places to eat, when you don't know the language to navigate around. I am determined to learn some Italian soon so that I can at least communicate which kind of cookies I would like :)

Benvenuti a Roma!
A day late, but just now got my wifi working. This post is the night I arrived in Rome!!!

Cao Roma!!
Finally snuggled in my bed in my spacious but noisy Roman
apartment. My flights to here were fairly smooth. From Charlotte to Miami I
actually sat next to a man who was from Sicily! From Miami to Madrid I sat next
to two French guys who were on their way back from vacation. They were nice, to
the extent that their little amount of English demonstrated. Unfortunately my
flight from Miami to Madrid was very delayed so I only had 40 minutes to make
my connecting flight to Rome. They also stop boarding 10 min before the plane
takes off so in reality I only had 30 minutes to traverse across the airport consisting of 4
elevators, customs, security, and a train ride! Luckily I have a couple
marathons under my belt and was successfully able to race through the airport,
as the security office ushered, “Americans this way” looking directly at me. I
am not sure what about my strawberry blonde hair, pink backpack, a blue
coat and confused blue eyes makes me
seem American. I think I am going to like this city-it has an aurora of ancient
history gleaming off the many beautiful structures throughout town. I can’t
wait to try the food! I hope it is as good as they say because I’m starving! I
am a little confused of the days right now since I flew through the night and
they fed me breakfast at an ungodly hour but I think I’ve calculated that I’ve
had an apple and two pumpkin muffins for dinner all day. Thank goodness momma
spent the day before I left baking up a storm so that I could take fresh
cookies and pumpkin muffins! I plan on making coffee in the morning with my
French press. Cream or no cream the caffeine must be ingested! Hopefully we can
get to a supermarcadi tomorrow because we are definitely running low on some
necessities…. Bed now gotta be up early for Orientation!
